Lots of Travel + Reflections on the Past Month
San Francisco, Washington DC, New York City and more!
It’s mid-October and it’s been a month since the last newsletter! It’s a quiet and chilly Tuesday evening in New Hampshire.
I had one of those moments today where I went for a run, and it was super pretty. I took a few pictures and thought to myself, maybe I should share these on Instagram. Or better yet, maybe I should get really active on Instagram and start sharing more photos so I can stay in touch with people more.
Then, as I thought more about the idea, I thought “man, I wish everyone had a personal newsletter.” I know sharing my personal life and reflections on Instagram just isn’t the right fit. And I don’t think there is a platform that is a good fit. Except for this one. So here I am, back in the groove of sending my personal newsletter because I think it’s important, and I want more people to do it, too.
Here’s a picture from my run by the way:
Now for some travel recaps:
San Francisco
I flew to SF for a few days in mid September to work in person with my boss, Michael. While working remotely is awesome in so many ways, spending time in person is always a blast. San Francisco is such a cool city with so much happening. We got to attend a Y Combinator founder happy hour one night which was a great opportunity to meet some interesting people. We also went to six coffee shops in the Soma area and got pizza at Che Fico which was soooo good! Here’s the tweet version of my recap:
Washington D.C.
After a few weeks staying local I was back on the road and went to Washington D.C. for a conference called Identity Week. I got the chance to talk about what we’re building at Trinsic to dozens and dozens of people. It definitely helped me refine my pitch, and gather lots of feedback on how to improve our messaging.
New York City
It was a quick turnaround getting back from Washington D.C. Wednesday night then heading to NYC on Friday morning for some time with Sophia and her brother, Joseph. New York was full of great food, and lots of laughs. We went to two different comedy shows. One was a more underground affair with mediocre comics, and the other was at the Comedy Cellar which is “widely considered the best comedy club in the United States” and it certainly delivered!
You’ll see lots of food photos from our trip on Sophia’s instagram soon. The only picture I took was of this beer glass at Other Half Brewing. I’ve been hoping to go here for years and years and we happened to walk by a location and popped in!
Reflections
Overall I love what I’m doing for work. The people are great. I enjoy the flow of each day. It’s challenging and rewarding. I’m excited to jump in each morning, which I think is always a good sign.
I’ve still been playing tennis about once a week and really enjoying it. Trying to stay active as the weather gets cold is already a bit of a challenge now that we have less daylight, but it just means more indoor workouts for now.
I started going to the rock gym again and have been bouldering three times in the past month. I think I might start including that in my rotation of exercises throughout the winter.
The next few weekends will be low-key. Spending time with family. Enjoying fall in New England.
We’ll be back in New York the first weekend of November, so let know if you’re around and want to grab coffee.
Until next time,
Zack
