Have you ever felt like your life is chaotic, then you look around and everyone else has it all figured out?
It’s tempting to feel like that. I know I have.
After working a few different part time engagements this spring, I feel scattered and unsure where any of this work will take me. But I look around and see friends in stable jobs, getting promoted, and climbing the corporate ladder.
But when you start to dig a little deeper, you realize that everyone is still figuring it out. Even the people with the most impressive resumes, and important job titles, are all figuring something out. At any given time, we’re all exploring something. Whether it’s related to work, relationships, physical movement or wellbeing, we all have things we’re working toward.
This past weekend I went on the Third Nature Summer Camp with 68 adults all at different stages of their careers and lives. When I walked in I felt the typical imposter syndrome that comes with meeting an impressive group of people. That feeling faded quickly as barriers broke down and people became more vulnerable with one another.
We engaged in deep conversations about relationships and love, how to incorporate more play into our lives, and how to be more present in each moment. As the weekend went on, it became less and less relevant what anyone did for work. It become all about their human experience.
Meeting new people can be a beautiful thing. While traditional “networking events” are often surface level, and uninspiring, there is another way. Find the groups that see you fully. Where your membership is not contingent on who you know, or what you do, but instead, on how you show up.
A huge thank you to Brian and the entire Third Nature team for putting together another incredible weekend.
I’m coming into this week with a new level of focus and intention. A renewed clarity on what’s important, and how I should be spending my time. I started the morning today with no social media for the first two hours of the day and 20 minute meditation/stretching session to start the morning. And now I’m here writing, focused on sharing an idea and a feeling that I’ve been incubating for a few days.
Other learnings and quotes from the weekend:
Connecting to play and movement feels so good, and everyone is secretly craving it
Space plays a huge role in how an experience can be facilitated
Waking up with yoga outside feels incredible
Asking better questions leads to better conversations
Stop feeling the need to compare yourself to others
Finding true belonging risks feeling heartbreak, so we avoid it
The opposite of loneliness is that feeling that we’re all in this together
That’s all for now. Wishing everyone a week full of intention, joy, and connection!
Until next time,
Zack
