Wow. Time flies.
In my mind, a newsletter every other week was a pretty achievable goal. And I didn’t feel too far away from making it happen. But here we are, sitting down for some writing and reflection and realizing that my last send was October 11th!
This is the point in a writing commitment where you start thinking: “why am I doing this anyways?”
Whether you’re writing a blog post, a tweet, or an entire book, I think everyone gets to the point where they question why they even started the endeavor.
I know many people who have an abundance of blog posts that sit 95% done in their apple notes. The hardest part is just deciding that something is good enough to ship. Good enough to put into the world. Good enough to be set free.
So here’s my attempt at sharing something that’s good enough. From my mind to the page to your inbox in about an hour, from a lively coffee shop in Concord, New Hampshire on this lovely December 4th morning.
Travel Updates (NYC, California)
Sophia and I went back to NYC in early November and continued our quest to find the best food throughout the city. We scored big in the chocolate chip cookie world and we’ve now tried most of the cookies that people generally rank as the “top cookies” in the city. Follow Sophia on Instagram @fiftystatefoodie for all the food we get to enjoy.
In mid November, I travelled to Mountain View, California with most of Trinsic’s engineering team for the Internet Identity Workshop. It’s an un-conference for people working on digital identity. 350 people came from all over the world to talk about different identity standards, business models and adoption of the technology. I left feeling so energized. Meeting so much of our team in person, and meeting other people working on similar challenges was super exciting!
What Else is Exciting in My life?
The little things. The small moments, conversations, fun events, and time with family are what stand out right now. So here’s a smattering of other things that are fun and somewhat noteworthy, in my life right now:
We saw Darlingside, an indie folk band, play in Concord on November 17th (pictured below). It was an awesome show at an intimate venue less than a mile from our house.
Sophia and I found a group of people to play trivia with in Concord and we took home 3rd place on Friday night!
We saw my brother’s college basketball team, Western New England University, play against Suffolk in Boston last week. They won in an intense and physical game.
We’re going to see a Cirque Du Soleil show next week!
We leave for Florida in about a month, so we’re trying to make the most of December in New England. I’m super thankful for all of the local gift shops, coffee shops and meeting places in Concord. It’s getting cold outside, but it’s still easy to toss on a coat, walk downtown and cozy up with a cortado and get some writing done in a lively space.
It also feels so great to meet more people in town and start feeling a greater sense of belonging in a place.
I think that’s all for now.
Thanks for reading and special shout out to Shivank for sending me his newsletter as a little nudge that it was time for me to write again. Writing and reflection can be self care. I was so excited to wake up this morning and work on this piece.
All the best,
Zack
