Built an App + Quick Updates
A couple weeks ago I was considering launching a design studio. Now I’m feeling a little more risk-averse and thinking I want to join a company in the fall. The thought of having a salary and benefits is appealing, especially after balancing three/four part time jobs over the last few months. I’ve been feeling scattered and I’m craving more focus.
I still love the idea of working on projects all underneath a studio model, but I’m thinking I need to lay some more ground work before I can rely on that as a full-time opportunity.
Regardless of what I end up doing a few months from now, the best thing to do right now is create! So I’m trying to write more, make more and connect with people.
This past weekend I made a prototype of a map of all golf courses in New Hampshire. I was seeking to solve a few problems here. The first is that I have family and friends all around the state, and we often try to find a place to meet and play golf and there’s no easy way to see all of the courses on a map. The second is that I was curious what courses exist that I’ve never heard of. Being able to visualize everything on one screen, zoom in, click on specific points and see the details is cool.
It only took a few hours to make the app using Glide with the hardest part being formatting all of the data properly in the Google Sheet that the app pulls from.
Quick Updates
I finished up a teaching engagement yesterday that will free up another 8-10 hours of my time, most of which was happening at nights.
I’m heading to the Poconos on Friday for Third Nature Summer Camp!
The weekend afterwards we’ll be in Florida for a wedding.
The following weekend my brother graduates from high school.
It’s going to be a busy few weeks, but I’m looking forward to spending time with friends and family especially as the weather gets so nice here in New Hampshire.
I went to a local networking event last week. It was just okay. Walking into a room where everyone is already in a conversation and you don’t recognize anyone is never an ideal experience.
I’ve been working out or moving my body in some way for about a half hour every morning before starting to work. It’s not the easiest habit to stick with, but I’ve been habit stacking and watching a documentary on Netflix while I work out to keep it fresh and exciting. So far I’ve watch The Alpinist, 14 Peaks and The River Runner.
What habits are you working on right now? Reply and let me know!
Thanks for reading! Until next time,
