Place
After four years in Concord, New Hampshire, we sold our house and moved to Portsmouth. The place feels right. 20 minutes from the beach, walking distance to many coffee shops, restaurants, pharmacies, a grocery store, yet still having plenty of grass for the dogs, and easy parking. 15 minutes from my Mom’s house, my Dad’s house, and some of my siblings.
Our first summer in Portsmouth was an absolute blast. I got back into surfing and quickly fell in love with the sport as a great way to build strength and endurance, connect with nature, and share the joy of the ocean with other people. I introduced friends to surfing, got extra gear to share with others, and started logging my sessions to keep track of my progress over time.
I also start a restaurant log of places in the area that we’ve been to or want to try soon which you can find here.
Work
Remote work has its ups and downs, but in the second half of 2024 I started traveling more frequently for work and found a nice rhythm in the chaos. From New York in July, Salt Lake in August, DC in September, Vegas in October and New York again in November, it was great to spend a few days every month in person with colleagues and industry peers.
As Trinsic pivoted, my role changed from the director of marketing to the director of partnerships. We brought on a new marketing lead, as my role evolved to look more like a product manager, finding new partners and prioritizing their place on our engineering roadmap.
Some of my proudest accomplishments from the past year have been the content I’ve helped produce that has been downloaded by countless identity industry executives and tech product leaders globally. I’ve spent hundreds of hours researching and understanding the state of digital ID adoption in the US and around the world, then creating ebooks, reports and decks to share that data publicly. I think these assets have played a big role of positioning Trinsic as an industry leader, and helping us stand out as a tiny 8-person company in a crowded market of much better-resourced competitors.
Personal
Along with some work travel, we also had plenty of personal trips throughout 2024. We started off the year in Savannah for my birthday on our way down to Florida for most of February before finishing off the road trip in Southport, North Carolina. Things got crazy in April and May with our move to Portsmouth since we were selling our house and downsizing significantly from a three bedroom with an office and basement down to a one bed one bath apartment.
In September I saw Niagara Falls for the first time, and then went to Scotland on a golf trip with my Dad which I wrote about in more depth in another newsletter. With a number of other trips interspersed, I’ve also been making more time for local events and networking again. Living in an apartment is more social than we expected too, and we’ve met dozens of new people (and their dogs) when we’re out walking.
Intentions
I wrote in last year’s reflection that my intention for 2024 is finding more energy and joy. Moving to Portsmouth and reconnecting with the ocean has been the biggest source of energy and joy this year. I feel so grateful to be able to surf with friends and family year round. Other hobbies like going to the gym and playing tennis have been on pause. Not because I don’t enjoy them, but because my energy has led me elsewhere.
I’ve also gotten back into reading in a new way, diving deep into the mystery/thriller genre and reading a number of books over the second half of the year. You can find my sparsely populated Goodreads here.
The physical joy and energy to surf has been incredible, but I’m still missing the intellectual energy I’ve had when working on prior projects like Dual School, writing my book, designing workshops and leading live experiences. I have some ideas about how to change this in the new year.
The pieces are coming together as I turn 30 in just a few weeks and I feel incredibly grateful for everything that’s happened in the last year. We’re coming into 2025 ready for a transformative year.
Loved this reflection and great to see how you lived out your 2024 intentions!
